Wiveton Downs, known to geologists as the Blakeney Esker,[1] is a 28.9-hectare (71.4 acres) biological and geological Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) near the village of Wiveton in North Norfolk. Part is also a Geological Conservation Review site,[2] and an area of 6.5 hectares (16.1 acres) is a designated Local Nature ReserveStatutory designation allowing principal local authorities to protect areas containing wildlife or geological features of particular local interest..[3]

The site is a classic example of an esker, a glacial crevasse which has been filled in to form a ridge.[1]

Gorse, heather and oak are the dominant plants found on the downs.[4]
