County Durham is a ceremonial countyArea with an appointed Lord Lieutenant and High Sheriff to represent the monarch's interest. in the North East of England, comprised of three unitary authorities – Durham, Darlington and Hartlepool – and part of a fourth, Stockton-on-Tees.[1]
