An oriel is a large polygonal recess built out from the upper storey of a building, supported by corbelsStructural piece of stone, wood or metal jutting from a wall to carry a superincumbent load. or by columns from the ground. If it is partially or wholly glazed, it is known as an oriel window.[1]
