Padderbury Top is an Iron Age defended settlement – a small hillfort – about two miles (3.2 km) south-east of Menheniot, in Cornwall, England, named after the hill on which it is situated. It is a scheduled monument.[1]
The settlement survives as a roughly circular central enclosure about 73 metres (80 yds) in diameter, defined by an inner rampart bank up to 3 metres (10 ft) in height externally and up to 1 metre (3 ft) internally. It is concentrically surrounded by a closely-set second rampart up to a metre in height. There are entrances on the western and eastern sides.[1][2]
Aerial photographs have revealed that there were originally up to four lines of defence, one between the two visible ramparts and an outer bank with a ditch. The outer earthworks have been ploughed, as has the interior of the settlement.[1][2]
