The Beacon is a cyclecar
Small, inexpensive automobile that filled the gap in the market between the motorcycle and the car. produced by Beacon Motors between 1912 and 1914, initially based in Hindhead, Surrey. The 1912 prototype was powered by a V-twin JAP engine with friction transmission and a chain drive. The Beacon was in many respects a conventional, “undistinguished” cycle car, but it was differentiated by the option of a cane basketware body instead of the standard offering of a metal-panelled wooden frame.[1][2]
Production vehicles from 1913 onwards made use of a 1093 cc V-twin French Griffon engine, driving a three-speed gearbox on the rear axle via a shaft drive.[1]
