As at the 2021 Census it has a population of 1770, occupying an area of 74.93 hectares (185.16 acres), giving a population density of 23.62 per hectare.[1]

The Parish of Eight Ash Green was formed in 1947, absorbing land from the surrounding parishes of Fordham, Copford, Stanway and Aldham. At that time most of the villagers were engaged in agriculture and other local trades, but as at 2017 most of those then working commuted to employment elsewhere.[2] As at the 2011 Census, only 1.3 per cent of villagers worked in agriculture.[3]
