A bothy is a basic shelter providing free temporary accommodation for shepherds, mountaineers and others in remote areas. It was also a term used for basic living quarters offered to unmarried male farm workers or gardeners on an estate. Bothies are usually one-storey buildings constructed of rubble.[1]
The Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982 (Licensing of Short-term Lets) Order 2022 defines bothies as a building of no more than two storeys, more than than 100 metres (328 ft) from the nearest public road or habitable building, which do not have any form of:[2]
