The Piazza at Havana is a landscape painting by the French-born British artist Dominic Serres. It depicts a scene from the last major operation of the Seven Years War (1756–1763), during the British occupation of Havana, Cuba. It was probably painted between 1765 and 1770.[1]
British troops in red coats are shown parading in the Plaza Vieja, with British sailors in the foreground. Serres painted a series of fourteen works focusing on the taking of Havana, of which The Piazza at Havana is one, for the Keppel family, three of whom served in the British campaign.[1][2]
The Piazza at Havana was acquired by the National Maritime Museum at Greenwich, London in 1983, which also has another five of the paintings in the series in its collection.[1]
