The Westminster Gazette was a London evening newspaper launched by Sir George Newnes in 1893.[1] Printed on green newsprint, it was nicknamed the “pea-green incorruptible”.[2] Staunchly Liberal throughout its 35-year history, it had only three editors during that time: Edward Tyas Cook (1893–1896); John Alfred Spender (1896–1922); and Joseph Burton Hobman (1922–1928).[1]
The Gazette continued as an evening newspaper until 5 November 1921, before two days later being relaunched as a morning paper. On 1 February 1928 it was merged with its leading Liberal rival, the Daily News.[1]
