Barclosh Castle is a small ruined 16th-century tower house
Characteristic style of Scottish castle building in the form of a tall tower, surrounded by one or more wings in L or Z-shaped floor plans in its later development., about two miles (3.2 km) north-east of Dalbeattie, Dumfries and Galloway in Scotland. Until the 20th century it belonged to the Maxwell family, an early member of which, Lord Herries, helped Mary, Queen of Scots, flee to England after the Battle of Langside in 1568.[1]
The castle was rectangular in plan, about 15 feet (5 m) wide with walls about 3 feet (0.9 m) thick. All that remains today is a 6-metre (20 ft) section of the south-east wall, about 8 metres (26 ft) high and 1.2 metres (3.9 ft) thick.[2]
