Otley Road drill hallBuilding in which volunteer soldiers can practise military drills., now renamed Wellington House, is a former military installation in Skipton, North Yorkshire, England. Completed in 1892, the building was designed as the headquarters of the 3rd Volunteer Battalion, The Duke of Wellington’s Regiment and was completed in 1892.[1] Under the Haldane Reforms of 1908, which created the Territorial Force, the regiment was renamed the 6th Battalion, The Duke of Wellington’s Regiment.[2]
In 1947 the battalion converted to become the 673rd Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment, Royal Artillery (The Duke of Wellington’s Regiment).[2]
Following the defence cut backs in 1967 the Otley Road drill hall was decommissioned,[a]Between 1967 and 1968 the Ministry of Defence disposed of around 850 drill halls out of perhaps 1,300 then in active use.[3] and stood vacant for many years. In 1981 it was converted to a billiard and snooker hall, together with office accommodation. As at 2025 the building is mainly occupied by an architectural practice, with part of the premises occupied by the local authority.[2]
