Linenfold is a style of relief carving used to decorate wood panelling, resembling linen with vertical loose folds;[1] such panels are known as drapery panels.[2] The interior walls of houses first began to be panelled in wood in 15th-century Flanders, from where the style spread throughout northern Europe.[3] Linenfold is commonly encountered in English architecture of the Tudor period, and saw a revival during the 19th century.[1]
Parchemin is a 16th-century development of linenfold, incorporating additional elements such as vines and foliage.[4]
