A glass cone is a glass production structure developed in Britain during the late 17th century. It is essentially a giant chimney surrounding a large central furnace, in which the glassblowers worked in dark, hot, smokey and noisy conditions.[1]
There are four surviving glass cones in the UK,[1] all pre-Victorian:[2]
- Catcliffe Glass Cone, South Yorkshire
- Lemington Glass Works, Newcastle upon Tyne
- Northern Glass Cone, Alloa Glass Works
- Red House Cone, Wordsley,
