Violet Banks (3 March 1896 – 1985) was a Scottish artist who painted in oils and watercolours, and decorated pottery.[1] She also developed an interest in photography,[2] and from 1935 until 1949 worked as a commercial photographer.[3]

Violet was born near Kinghorn in Fife, and was educated at Craigmount, Edinburgh, before going on to study at the Edinburgh College of Art. After completing her diploma she became the senior art mistress at St Oran’s School for girls in Edinburgh. She exhibited regularly at the Royal Scottish Academy from 1918 until 1928, and at the Royal Scottish Watercolour Society, the Society of Scottish Artists and the Society of Scottish Women Artists.[2]
